Hi anyone know why my Android tablet takes ages to get a fix?
I don't want to state the obvious but, GPSs are designed to be used outdoors and although some do work indoors they will all find it much harder to get a fix there, so if you are using it indoors you need to be near a window or better still go outside You don't say what Android App. you are using but Apps. like AndroiTS GPS test and GPS Test by Chartcross have an option to reset and reload AGPS data, this is data that helps the GPS get a fix but the Apps. sometimes try to use old data which makes getting a 'fix' difficult
Thanks for the reply, the tablet is mounted on the dash with a clear view of the sky, the tablet specs indicate that it can receive four kinds of satellite signals, when using GPS test it can be seeing 12 satellites (I've only ever seen GPS and GLONASS satellites) with 5 in use but still no fix. I have used Google maps, copilot and Waze, all fail in the same way. Sometimes after perhaps 45 minutes a fix is made and after that whatever map service I'm using seems to be accurate and remains working indefinitely, the problem I seem to be having is getting the first "fix".
Does the tablet work outside (not in the car) ?, some cars have heated windscreens, these block GPS signals, 4 satellites in use is the minimum requirement to get a fix, here is a screen from my tablet (indoors but right against a window) :-
Can anyone explain this... GPS connector has 8 in use with a fix, but GPS test only sees 3 with no fix, I thought all the data would come from GPS connector once it had been selected as the mock location app...
