Hi everyone, this is my first post to the group.

I recently picked up a new Garmin Montana 600 to use on my boat. I am wondering what is the best PC software for use in coastal navigation that will interface with a GM600?

I downloaded the trial version of Polar View. It displays detailed NOAA charts very well but I can't get it to talk to the GPS.

Interface: Garmin Spanner; Garmin Serial; NMEA In/Out; Text out; RTCM

I've tried but can't get the GPS to show up in the software.

Any suggestions about the interface, or another piece of software that works well?
    Thanks
    David

    Garmin interfacing to Polar View

I have found the answer on another forum and will post it here for reference

Download a program called Garmin Spanner
    * this program is needed for interfacing and sets up the vitual COM port.

    Start - Polar View
Ensure the GPS interface is in Garmin Spanner mode & plug the GPS in via USB cable
Start Garmin Spanner program and click "Find GPS", then click "Start"

In Polar View select "Port Manager"
Select the default connection in the window, click "Start"
Select "Live Ship" mode in Polar View

Your GPS will now send data to the navigation software.

This sequence reliably interfaces the Garmin Montana 600 to Polar View PC version.
