I bought the 20 when it first came out. It had a lot of little quarks which I thought were do to it's newness and after a few updates it would be straightened out. Nope.

Garmin left a bad taste in my mouth almost immediately by requiring me to purchase the maps separate after the fact. It's been down hill since then.

    - to get a custom map on my device I have to use photoshop, earthviewer, and basecamp.......in 2014? Still?

    -Less than 1MP image? Really?

-regularly does not update device with new maps that I add in basecamp, most times I have to do it 2 or 3 times before it actually works.

-once a map does show up, 99.9% of the time, something else that was on the device is now missing.

    - last few updates have left the device unreliable at best. maps not showing up after an hour of use even though I have a full battery, full GPS signal, and correct maps loaded.

this past weekend I updated both Basecamp and the device. I hold my breath every time as it has never worked correctly. but this last weekend it corrupted the software to the point I had to uninstall basecamp and install an older version. Plus the device no longer reads the correct time while in use, yet when viewing the data on the computer everything is correct.

really feel like the Original Motorola Droid (from 5 years ago) was a better device and a phone on top.

Is this typical of GPS units in general? In my experience, my phones have been far superior to handheld units. My tom tom wasn't any better either. I bought the Garmin thinking they would be better. At this point, trying to decide it there is any unit under $300 that is better than a phone, because for under $300 I can buy an old phone and use it as a GPS device.
