My GPSMap76, installed in my boat, is dying after many, many years of faithful service.

When I replace it, I would like to continue to use the 4pin power and data cable which plugs into the rear of the GPS76.

I cannot find out if such a facility exists on the GPSMap79sc.

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks,
    David (Australia)

Here is a picture of the 12 Volt serial connector on the back of the GPSMap79sc :-

Many thanks for the info. I am ordering one as the DC/serial connector seems to be the same.

Yes, the GPSMap 79sc does contain a 4 pin data cable on the back along with a mini usb port . I don't know anything about using the 4 pin data cable. According to documentation it a serial port connection. I've attached a photo so you can see what it looks like. My guess is this is exactly what you are looking for.

The new unit is installed and I can confirm that the data and power cable works exactly as it did with the (much) older unit. So well done Garmin for preserving this useful feature.
