This is my first post here and trying to figure out to input gps coordinates.

    here is the GPS coordinates.

    GPS: 38.859445, -108.713322

It will not let me put in the full gps coordinates and it does not show south and north or east ot west and you can see the above gps coordinates

So how do I input the gps coordinates in this Garmond nuvi 850?

    Thanks

The menus on Nuvis vary from model to model, the examples below are for the Nuvi 56 but are probably similar on your Nuvi 850. The Nuvi 56 does not accept the '-' symbol when entering co-ordinates

I am assuming that in your example above that the first number is Latitude i.e. North - South and that the second number is Longitude i.e. West - East,
+38 is equal to North 38
-38 is equal to South 38
+108 is equal to East 108
-108 is equal to West 108

Nuvis allow you to input co-ordinates in 3 formats, they are :-

    1) h ddd.ddddd
    2) h ddd mm.mmm
    3) h ddd mm ss.s

    Key
h = N for North, S for South, W for West or E for East
    d = Degrees . . . m = Minutes . . . s = Seconds

Your example is in format 1) so you would enter this :-

    N38.85944
    W108.71332

    Nuvi 56 Menus
Where to >> Categories >> Coordinates >> [Spanner symbol] >> Coordinate format
Where to >> Categories >> Coordinates >> Enter Coordinates

I am a nOOb at this lets see if I understand this here is a link of a place with the GPS coordinates...

    link:

It will show on the top left of the page..

    GPS: 38.914788, -111.737858

so for the coordinates above I would type in...

    N:38.91478
    W:111.73785

    Is this correct?

If you have set the coordinate format to 1) h ddd.ddddd, then yes it is correct, however, if your Nuvi is the same as mine you should leave out the colons between N:3 and W:1
