Using my new Nuvey 3490 LMT I notice that after switching off and than switching on again the map points to a position not being the last one, but miles away from it. Quite a nuisance for me, because this way I do not "know" where I am now. Another thing is that the route calculation time is quite long, say 45 seconds for a 20 mile route, compared to the time a friend of mine showed me with his 3490 LMT ... what happens?

Thanks, will try that. Never heard of a hard reset for the Nuvey. First save all data on my pc

Hard reset worked, Nuvey works fine again. But navigating on OSM is still somewhat slow, and the proces of putting my position on that map is not continuous but in steps. Let's say "stroboscopic" in a way!

Check in :- Settings >> Map & Vehicle >> myMaps to see that you only have OSM selected as a map i.e. ensure the City Navigator (Garmin Default) is de-selected, I'm not sure how Garmins cope when having two maps of the same area enabled, but I suspect it will be a drain on processing power. I also do a full power off (soft reset), when switching between map selections because I have found when switching back to City Navigator that not all 'features' such as the current road speed limit was being displayed with just a 'standy' off

What you say is exactly what I do every time I switch between Garmin maps and OSM. No success however.
