Oldman,
I just got my card reader and was able to see the Maestro 4250 Backup &
Restore data on my SD card.
The data is in FAT filesystem format and contains a single folder named
"backup" which in turn contains 7 files, all of type .DAT. The folder is
read-only but it is not hidden (as suggested by traveller). The card has
1.46 MB used space and 1.91 GB free space.
Here are my details, but I don't know how much they'll help you.
System: Vista Home Premium
Card Reader: Lexar USB 2.0 Multi-Card Reader
I plugged the card reader into a USB port on my computer and, after a brief
delay, it started installing device drivers, one for each of the 4 card
reader slots.
When the drivers finished installing I looked in My Computer and saw 4
Removable Disk entries, one for each card slot and each with a different
drive letter.
I then inserted the SD card and clicked on each Removable Disk entry and
each said "Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (<drive letter>
."
I then unplugged the USB connection from the computer, reinserted it,
checked the 4 Removable Disks again and, lo and behold, there was my SD card
with its "backup" folder.
To remove the SD card I right-clicked on the Removable Disk entry in My
Computer and selected Eject or Safely Remove. Selecting Safely Remove for
any of the 4 card reader entries made all 4 disappear from My Computer.
I've noticed that Vista doesn't recognize some of my USB thumb drives, even
if they're plugged in when I turn on my machine. I have to pull them out and
then reinsert them to get Vista to show them.
My only suggestions are to insert the SD card into the reader, make sure you
check all possible devices in My Computer, and then, if you can't see it,
unplug and then reinsert the USB connection from the reader to your
computer.
Let me know what happens, but I probably can't help much if the above
doesn't work.

P.S. Just a warning: per the User Manual you can't use the same SD card for
both Backup & Restore and Enhanced POIs; you need 2 separate SD cards. It's
possible that firmware 3.34 eliminates that restriction, but I wouldn't
count on it.
